In the direct lineage of Hawayo Takata who brought Reiki to the United States from Japan. Sarah Chapman trained with Nana Deleplanque (at “The NYC Reiki Institute”) who trained with John Harvey Gray, from 1989 to 1997 as a student and assistant.

J. H Gray was one of Mrs Takata earliest master. With Nana, Sarah learned that Reiki was much more than a healing technique but provided a total transformation. Sarah strongly believes that Reiki should be used with integrity and commitment to reflect the lineage of Dr Mikao Usui, Hayashi and Takata.

Precepts presented by Usui to inform our everyday choices (Japanese Translation might vary, but that was the one that spoke to me the most!):

Today only

Do not anger

Do not worry

With thankfulness

Work diligently

Be kind to others

About our reiki private session

At the beginning of a Reiki session, Sarah will scan your Energy Field and your Chakras to see which areas need special attention, then the complete body and Prana work will begin.

Through the use of her hands Sarah will transfer the Universal Energy Force to increase your vitality, and balance the different areas to restore the quality of your health. Sometime, patients can experience emotional release that was trapped in the body, although uncomfortable at first it will soon allow you to be. You will feel and see clearly what has to be done, it will allow you to accept and own whatever is happening in your life and still be in control.

Eventually, your mind will feel calm, you will expand your inner awareness and promote transformation and growth.

Health, Creativity, Dynamism, Spirituality, “Joy Reiki Institute” aims to integrate mind, body and spirit. You will experience all the benefits of Reiki if you simply allow what comes into your attention to just be. Be the witness of it all and allow all past experiences or blockages to come out, Simply be the witness.

“When we are clear and comfortable with who we are inside, life becomes beautiful- regardless of what is going on around us.” Michael A. Singer this quote summarizes for Sarah the pure definition of Joy.

About our yoga Nidra classes

ENTERING THE ZERO STRESS ZONE

This technique comes from the Hindu texts of Vedanta (the Vedas) in the Upanishads (=teachings on the universe and self realization). The science behind this method is more than 6,000 years old.

All you need for Yoga Nidra is a mat and whatever resources that will make you more comfortable (bolster, blanket…). Yoga Nidra is usually done lying down on your mat and Sarah is the facilitator. You just need to listen with your Prana (energy) body and the rest will be done. After the first or second class, you can schedule an individual appointment with Sarah to work on creating your primary and secondary intention, that you can use on a daily basis.

Yoga Nidra works on 3 levels: Spiritual, Psychological/ behavioral and Physical. There are 5 tools of Yoga Nidra;

  • REALIZATION (Spiritual) that allows you to experience the self beyond the body, realizing who we truly are. You connect to pure consciousness, a silent non-doing presence. STILLNESS

  • INTEGRATION: (Psychological/ Behavioral) this stages allows you to release blocked energy at all levels, the body and the mind are integrating balance at both an emotional and a physical level.

  • DISIDENTIFICATION (Psychological/ Behavioral/ Spiritual) This is the stage when you become the witness of all thoughts and behavior, this distance allows you to move from a preprogramed unconscious reaction to a conscious action. Making it easier for you to control your emotions in life. You will act to situations as oppose to react.

  • INTENTION (Psychological/ Behavioral/ Spiritual) Unique to Yoga Nidra, you will use an intention to shift your life in the direction you want to go. You are in control.

  • RESTORATION (Physiological) In Yoga Nidra you go from beta (waking state) to alpha and theta brainwave states allowing the body to heal itself and restore itself naturally. With Yoga Nidra you enter brainwaves like in deep meditation, it is beneficial for healing and enhances learning.

about hatha yoga and vinyasa

Yoga is a holistic art and practice that originated in India about 5,000 years ago. The word yoga means to yoke as to unite the body with the mind and the mind with the soul in order to reach a state of balance, health, tranquility and enlightenment.

There are many styles of Yoga and none is better than another. Most differences between each style of yoga derive from the primary focus of the practitioner’s attention.

Hatha Yoga is the style on which most other styles are based. In Sanskrit Ha means the sun and Tha, the moon. the practice is designed to bring balance into each aspect of our polarities. It includes slow-paced stretching, asanas, simple breathing exercises and sometime a short seated meditation. Hatha Yoga classes are good for beginners.

Vinyasa yoga is more of an alignment based type of yoga and asanas are woven into a flowing practice. It is a more energetic practice.

Sarah’s classes tend to mix both Hatha and Vinyasa depending on the client’s body and strength. The main priority for Sarah is being able to feel the flow of energy within the body and within each pose in order to really go deep; feeling and reaching the union of our soul and the cosmic soul.
